The center of Stivers looks different now than it did in the 1940's. According to Mr. Russell Nicely, a faculty member, stated in the late 1950's the Board of Education Maintenance Department believed it was dangerous due to falling stones. There was no funding available to repair the tower, it was removed.
Above the central wing of the south elevation are four relief sculptures depicting Abraham Lincoln, Captain Charles B. Stivers, Horace Mann and Wilbur Wright.
